Farm to Fare Subscription Garden
Program
-
Tender
golden sweet corn that doesn't need butter;
- Greens so rich the vitamins and minerals drip
from the leaves;
- Pungent, saucy fresh herbs
that provide marvelous spice to your foods;
- Perky, strong colored flowers shout of the
earth from every petal.
Sound delicious?
A subscription
to the Crones Cradle Farm to Fare gardening program will
enchant your palette and delight your eye. Fresh organic
produce is provided to individuals and families of our
community directly from our gardens.
Advantages
of a Farm to Fare subscription share from Crones'
Cradle:
- The food in your Farm to Fare
subscription basket is picked on the morning of the day
you receive it;
- Your food has not spent weeks
inside a refrigerated storage unit;
- You have
spent your grocery money with a local farmer, thereby
encouraging the local economy;
- Local travel
from our farm to Ocala uses far less fossil fuel than
transporting food across oceans and continents;
- You may visit our gardens, talk to your farmer,
share the joy of a prolific crop or the sorrow of a
failed one;
- You are a familiar member of this
community, a community that raises food for you.
Our gardens are lovingly tended with great care
paid to nourishment, variety, flavor and beauty. Your
weekly share contains enough food to provide vegetables
for a family of four for a week. We constantly
search for new vegetables which will grow well in our
sub-tropical climate. We choose only those which are
tasty, nutritious and easy to prepare
Crones'
Cradle’s season opens with a lovingly
arranged weekly basket filled with fresh vegetables,
herbs, fresh brown farm eggs and often a canned product
or goodie tucked in. We include recipes for unfamiliar
vegetables, giving you a chance to enjoy new tastes and
nourishments. We hope you will also enjoy our weekly
farm update.
Some comments from current subscribers:
"I was amazed at the variety
that you produced"
"Organic food
grown locally by people you know and you know care,
there is no down side"
Application and Volunteering
Membership fee per season is $75, which helps
cover planting, tending and harvesting vegetables
and herbs, seeds, supplies, machinery and labor
costs. We need garden help, so we offer a reduction
in membership cost for volunteering on the farm. We
will deduct $5.00 per hour worked from your
membership fee, up to $50. This is not an hourly
wage, of course, but is our way to thank you for
volunteering on the farm, and help pay your gasoline
expenses.
Weekly Baskets
Weekly baskets are $25, payable one week in
advance. Each weekly basket will contain vegetables
and other products for a family of four, using each
vegetable twice during each week:
5 vegetables And if we are
short on this list we will 1 pint
jelly, jam or pickled vegetables
1 fresh culinary herb fill in with one
of the following: 1 pint 15-bean
soup
1/2 dozen
eggs 1
- 3" potted plant
1 bouquet of fresh
flowers 1
pint fresh fruit in season
2 recipes using vegetables in your basket
Pickup
We will have two pick up locations on Wednesday.
One will be at Crones’ Cradle Conserve. The second
will be in mid-town Ocala. We are delighted if you
pick up your basket on the farm with the chance to
spend some time on the beautiful land. If you
cannot, we encourage you to spend time on the farm
often if you pick up your basket in Ocala. We would
like to know you as a person as well as a customer.
If you need home delivery, we will provide this
service in addition to membership and weekly basket
costs. The delivery charge is $5 per week within
five miles from the pick-up point.
Fees
If you pay for your membership fee and 13 weekly baskets in one
lump sum, the cost is $400, a 10% savings on the regular subscription
price.
First and second
weekly basket cost is due on receipt of your first
basket. Every week thereafter you pay $25, which means
you stay paid one week ahead. You may pay as far ahead
as you like.
Shareholders may stop basket
pick-up for up to three (3) weeks during the growing
season by calling the farm one week before delivery. You
must pay for your basket if you are away more than three
weeks. If you have not called, you will be charged for
your basket.
Garden Seasons
We will run four 13-week
seasons per year. If you subscribe to two garden seasons
consecutively, our consecutive subscriber rate is $100 membership
for the two seasons. The current 13-week season began on April 14;
if you join for the rest of the first season, we will prorate your
membership fee. In addition, we offer 10% off for payment in full
for seasonal membership and weekly baskets. Ask about this cost
deduction.
